UAB to host anthropological conference

UAB anthropology researchers will present papers at a conference hosted at UAB.

anth_conferenceThe UAB Department of Anthropology will host the Southern Anthropological Society’s 47th Annual Meeting March 14-17, 2012, in the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel. This year’s theme is “Peace, Justice and Environment.” The keynote speaker is Beth Conklin, Ph.D., professor of anthropology and religious studies at Vanderbilt University.

Several UAB associate professors of anthropology will present papers:

  • Loretta Cormier, Ph.D., – “War and Peace Studies Programs in Anthropology”
  • Sharyn Jones, Ph.D., department chair – “The Archaeology of War and Peace”
  • Chris Kyle, Ph.D., – “Local politics, criminality and violence in southern Mexico: Reflections on the drug war in historical perspective”
