UAB Department of Biology scientists Jim McClintock, Ph.D., Chuck Amsler, Ph.D., and Robert Angus, Ph.D., are the recipients of a new three-year National Science Foundation grant to study the effects of ocean acidification and rising sea surface temperatures on the invertebrate organisms and algae that live on the ocean bottom in the shallow waters along the coasts of Antarctica.
The award, valued at $625,499, broadens the UAB in Antarctica team's ongoing Antarctic research with its charge to quantify the potential impacts of climate change via ocean acidification, which is a result of increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide, and via increasing global temperatures caused by increasing greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide.
