Acclaimed writer to read works at UAB

Nelson received a USA Artists Award in 2009 and the 2003 Rea Award for Short Fiction, as well as NEA and Guggenheim Fellowships.

antonya_nelsonAntonya Nelson, an award-winning fiction writer, will read from her works at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013. The free, public event is part of the BACHE Visiting Writer’s Series and will take place at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hulsey Recital Hall, 950 13th St. South.

Nelson penned four novels, including “Bound,” and six short story collections. Her works have appeared in the “New Yorker,” “Esquire,” “Harper’s,” and “Redbook,” as well as coveted anthologies such as “Prize Stories: the O. Henry Awards” and “Best American Short Stories.”

Nelson received a USA Artists Award in 2009 and the 2003 Rea Award for Short Fiction, as well as NEA and Guggenheim Fellowships. She teaches in the Warren Wilson MFA Program and the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program.
