Three UAB teams compete in computer programming contest

Three teams from the UAB College of Arts and Sciences Department of Computer and Information Sciences competed in the U.S. Southeast regional round of the 35th annual IBM-sponsored Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest on Nov. 6, 2010. The three UAB teams were among 75 from dozens of universities that competed at one of three regional host sites. 

Team Blazers finished the U.S. Southeast regional as No. 21 overall after winning the top spot among the teams at its host site; Team Drakes finished at No. 51 and Team Hydras, No. 64. The programming contest format had teams attempting to solve a set of computer problems by coding programs with only five hours to solve as many problems as possible.
