UAB music student a national finalist

Kseniia Polstiankina is one of seven national finalists who will compete at the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Piano Competition

kseniia_academy_2010_newsiteUAB Department of Music student Kseniia Polstiankina is one of seven national finalists who will compete at the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Piano Competition. The competition, sponsored by Steinway & Sons, will be held during the MTNA National Conference in Milwaukee, Wis., March 26-30, 2011.

Polstiankina was chosen as a national finalist after representing Alabama and winning the MTNA Southern Division Young Artist Piano Competition in Columbus, Ga., Jan. 14-17. Polstiankina, a senior music major, is a student of UAB Associate Professor of Piano Yakov Kasman, D.M.A. "This is a tremendous achievement for Kseniia and an honor for our department and for UAB," Kasman says. She is the daughter of Irina Polstiankina and Sergei Polstiankin of Kiev, Ukraine.
