Measuring Success: Research, Innovation and Economic Development pillar

Metric: UAB Economic Impact

UAB does not conduct research simply to create new knowledge. Rather, this pillar emphasizes that our knowledge, including the research process by which it is created, will improve society. This metric shows the total economic impact in Alabama of the UAB enterprise, which has research as one of its integrated components. Measuring economic impact requires a long lead time, so these reports are only commissioned every five years.

Data definition: UAB's economic impact was measured as part of reports prepared by economic development consulting firm TrippUmbach in 2009 and 2016. More information on methodology can be found at uab.edu/impact. Source: TrippUmbach.
