Appreciating Our Postdocs through Awards

One of the most exciting and fulfilling parts of Postdoc Appreciation week is that we are able to publicly honor the amazing work of our postdocs.

Honoring our postdocs began in 2015 with the first ever Postdoctoral Appreciation Awards submissions and ceremony. The Postdoctoral Association Board started this tradition, and in 2016, the Dory Award was included to acknowledge the resilient nature of postdoctoral scholars.

The awards categories are as follows:

  • Excellent Peer Award — this award is for the postdoctoral fellow/trainee who habitually extends their talents, patience, and time to help other scholars or researchers.  2022 award recipient: Dr. Annesha King.
  • Community Minded Award — this award is for the postdoctoral fellow/trainee who is dedicated to filling the needs of a local, national, or international community.  2022 award recipient: Dr. Anuradha Goswami.
  • The Dory Award — this award is for the postdoctoral fellow/trainee who, despite setbacks and obstacles in their project, has kept pushing and persevered until they successfully finished the work.  2022 award recipient: Dr. Samain Sabrin.
  • Dr. Congeniality Award — this award is for the postdoctoral fellow/trainee who has a disposition so kind and pleasant that their presence brightens the atmosphere of the work environment.  2022 award recipient: Dr. Taylor Buchanan and Dr. Carolina Francelin Rovarotto.
  • Extraordinary First Year Postdoc — this award is a “Rookie of the Year” award for the first year postdoctoral fellow/trainee who has become an immediate asset to the lab and shows great promise.  2022 award recipient: Dr. Hugh Roland.
  • Hardest Working Postdoc — this award is for the postdoctoral fellow/trainee who puts in consistent great work, but their dedication and skill is not necessarily represented with publications.  2022 award recipient: Dr. Chae-Myeong "Jenna" Ha.
  • Most Esteemed Postdoc — this award is for the postdoctoral fellow/trainee with an impressive number of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations and posters.  2022 award recipient: Dr. Rachel Wells.
