Tackle your problems one at a time

new counseling 492One-at-a-Time Therapy is a new offering from UAB Employee Assistance & Counseling Center to help employees address a specific issue in a single, goal-oriented therapy session.

The evidence-based therapy approach is not focused on the root of the issue or history of the problem, but on gaining immediate, helpful insights and creating a plan of action based on personal strengths and available resources. The goal is to leave the session with new strategies to put into action.

EACC Director Tami Long, Ph.D., says research shows that about 50 percent of individuals find a single session is enough to meet their needs and get them started on the changes they want to make in their lives.

“The One-at-a-Time Therapy model is based on the power of now and what the client would like to achieve during the counseling session,” Long said. “It is not for individuals going through a crisis,” Long said, but it will enable UAB to “expand services to those who need assistance with pressing concerns.”

At the end of the session, an EACC counselor will arrange a follow-up call to find out how these strategies are working out and to discuss options for additional support or services, if needed.

EACC counseling services are offered via telemental health and are free to eligible employees and members of their immediate household.
