rep aware poppies 550pxThe poppy has been a symbol of remembrance and hope, worn to honor servicemen and servicewomen who have fought and died for their country, for more than a century. This Veterans Day, the AWARE Disability Management Program invites the UAB community to don this powerful reminder of the bloodshed and the sacrifices made by our veterans and armed forces.

Stop by the AWARE Program’s Pop-Up Poppy Stop Nov. 7 to get a free poppy pin and learn more about the origins of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance. The Pop-Up Poppy Stop will be set up:

Toiletry drive through Nov. 17

In honor of Veterans Day 2023, the AWARE Program also is hosting a toiletry drive to benefit the Phoenix Clinic at the Birmingham VA Medical Center. The Phoenix Clinic serves homeless Birmingham-area veterans and those leaving homelessness behind. Toiletries including deodorant, lotion, soap, toothpaste and other hygiene items; full-size combs; new underwear, undershirts and bras (large and extra-large preferred); and new or gently used clothing will be collected November 6-17 at locations across campus.
