Following the razing of the 1950s Townhouse Building in summer 2019, Blazers have anxiously awaited the new park space slated to take its place.

Aptly named the Townhouse Park, UAB’s newest green space is home to foliage and several benches and tables for employees and students to relax and grab a bite, study or take a breather. The Lot 30 parking area adjacent to Townhouse Park also was repaved and striped.

townhouse park mock upNew art coming soon

Later this summer, the Townhouse Park will become home to a new art installation — three laser-cut stainless steel towers with programmed LED lighting. Each tower will feature art patterns conceptualized by local artist Deedee Morrison and inspired by sketches and notes from former UAB faculty and staff found in the UAB Archives; one will feature chalkboard-style mathematical equations, with the other two displaying illustrations inspired by the view through a microscope. The new installation will join the more than 35 other statues or sculptures housed on campus, viewable on the 2-mile East Campus public art trail.
