UAB offers many ways to celebrate Earth Month

uabearthday sizedLearn about sustainability in the home, workforce, Alabama and the world during campus events planned April 3-11 and connect with employees, students, organizations and businesses that are working to promote environmentally friendly activities and policies.

Thursday, April 3 “Not just the environment: Facets of Sustainability,” Blazer Hall Residence Life Center, 7 p.m. Short presentations and discussion from a broad array of faculty will introduce attendees to the expansive scope of sustainability.

Friday, April 4 Green Jobs Fair, Blazer Hall Residence Life Center, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Businesses in green industries or with sustainability interests will have booths to meet and greet students.

Monday, April 7 Arbor Day Celebration, UAB Mini-Park, 11a.m.-1 p.m. Educational demonstrations, tree-planting ceremony and other activities to celebrate trees. Co-presented by UAB student environmental group, Green Initiative.

Wednesday, April 9 UAB Earth Month Festival, on the Green, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Educational booths, produce and green products vendors, live music and food.

Thursday, April 10 Southern Exposure Film Series, Spencer Honors House, 7 p.m. A screening of short films selected to raise awareness about important environmental issues in Alabama.

Friday, April 11 Household hazardous waste collection, UAB Recycling Center, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. UAB faculty, staff and students can bring household items such as paint and solvents to be disposed properly.
