UAB Police Department earns re-accreditation

Written by

The UAB Police Department has been awarded re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), an international law enforcement accreditation program that sets the standards for police departments across the United States and Canada. UAB is one of only six police departments in Alabama accredited by CALEA and one of 47 university police departments nationwide accredited by the organization.

The UAB Police Department was the first university and one of 15 agencies to participate in CALEA’s BETA Reaccreditation Model, a new onsite process adopted at the July 2011 conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. The BETA process involved a rigorous examination and review of the agency’s policies related to the 464 CALEA's standards.

“Being accredited supplies our agency with the tools needed to strategically plan and successfully manage the highly professional men and women of the UAB Police Department,” says UAB Police Chief Anthony Purcell. “Accreditation amplifies trust and confidence among our members and the community we serve”.
