Be alert to scammers and spammers

Written by

ITIn recent years, some UAB students and employees have been targets of a phone scam in which malicious callers make threats about alleged debt. They have identified themselves as representatives of IRS, FBI and even UAB.

Please be aware none of these groups will call you demanding money, especially at night and on weekends. And you should never provide money or personal information to a caller.

If you receive similar calls, report it to your support information technology group at AskIT, 996-5555, or HSIS Helpdesk, 934-8888.

In unsolicited emails regarding your accounts at UAB or elsewhere, misspellings and unfamiliar email addresses are among the clues to bogus requests for action or information. Also, UAB will never ask for your BlazerID or any other username or password on the phone or in an email.

Learn more about these online and report suspected spam to AskIT@uab.edu.
