UAB Police preparing for national accreditation review

Written by

UAB police carThe UAB Police Department is undergoing its periodic review by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, and assessors will be on campus April 2-5.

As part of the on-site assessment program, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information forum 3-4 p.m. April 4 in UAB Police Department Headquarters Building Training Room 204. Individuals unable to attend the public information session are invited to offer comments 11 a.m.-1 p.m. April 3 by calling 205-975-6209.

The accreditation process evaluates an agency’s ability to meet the requirements of the professional standards established by CALEA in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services. UAB was first accredited by CALEA in 1995, and it is reaffirmed it every three years.

Telephone comments and appearances at the public information session are limited to five minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. A copy of the standards is available at 1117 14th Street South and will be made available for review upon request.

Written comments about the UAB Police Department's ability to comply with the standards for re-accreditation also may be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320 Gainesville, VA 20155.
