Feb. 22 Blowing in the wind
Attend a free recital with the ICA Southeastern Festival and Blazer clarinet choirs at 1:30 p.m. in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center. The UAB Department of Music presents this in conjunction with the 13th annual UAB Clarinet Symposium.
Feb. 23 Bringing history to life
Birmingham native Ada J. Womack, a visual and performing artist, poet and writer, will be part of an interactive performance focused on the historical and current lives of African-Americans 7:30 p.m. in Hulsey Center Recital Hall. The UAB Gospel Choir also will perform.
Feb. 24 Getting affirmation
Representatives from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges will make an onsite visit to campus Feb. 24-26 as part of the process of reaffirming UAB’s accreditation. Feb. 25 Warring words
Brian Turner, a soldier-poet and award-winning author of Phantom Noise and Here, Bullet, will read from his works during the UAB Writers’ Series at 6 p.m. in Hulsey Recital Hall. His memoir, My Life as a Foreign Country, retraces his war experience in Iraq and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Feb. 26 Seeking secret ingredients
Come have a good time tasting chili made by teams of your co-workers in UAB Medicine during the fifth annual UAB Employee Chili Cook-Off, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in UAB Hospital West Pavilion Atrium and UAB Hospital-Highlands Cafeteria. Cost is only $5, and proceeds benefit the UAB Benevolent Fund.

Explore brain-machine interfaces during the free Bevill Neuroscience Symposium in the UAB Alumni House. Parking, refreshments and a reception will be provided. A list of speakers and presentations is online. Register by Feb. 23.
