Greg ParsonsUniversity of Alabama at Birmingham Chief Facilities Officer Greg Parsons will retire effective Jan. 31, 2027, concluding a distinguished career in higher education facilities leadership and more than a decade of service to UAB. Parsons came to UAB in 2014 and has served as UAB’s chief facilities officer since 2019.
“Greg has provided steady, strategic leadership during an extraordinary period of campus growth and transformation,” said UAB Vice President for Finance Stephanie Mullins. “During his tenure, UAB has advanced and completed transformative construction and renovation efforts that have enhanced the university’s academic, research, clinical and student‑focused environments. These efforts have modernized our campus, strengthened our research and clinical missions, and positioned UAB for continued growth well into the future.”
Parsons’ early notice reflects his commitment to ensuring a smooth leadership transition.
“I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to contribute to the tremendous strategic growth and momentum UAB’s physical environment has experienced over the last decade,” Parsons said. “It has been a pleasure to work with our talented Facilities team to support our students, patients, faculty and staff while implementing President Watts’ bold vision for UAB’s future.”
In late 2025, UAB highlighted 14 new construction and renovation projects. When the Altec/Styslinger Genomic Medicine and Data Sciences Building opened in October, it marked UAB’s seventh new or renovated facility opened in a span of only five months.
“That operational pace and those transformational projects represent only a fraction of Greg’s impact as chief facilities officer,” Watts said. “Greg’s commitment to leading our extraordinary Facilities team in serving the UAB community and everyone who counts on us has transformed our campus into one of the most beautiful, state-of-the-art urban universities and academic medical centers in the country. We are grateful for all he accomplished here and wish him the very best in his well-earned retirement.”
A national search for Parsons’ successor will launch in the coming weeks. Until his retirement, Parsons will continue in his role and work closely with leadership to maintain continuity of operations and momentum on key initiatives.
