Employees can give back many ways this holiday season

holiday drives streamFaculty and staff have several on-campus options for giving the gift of joy during the 2017 holiday season.

Angel tree

Partner with the UAB Staff Council and provide clothing, toys and other gifts and necessities to underprivileged children in the Birmingham community by adopting an angel from the UAB Leadership and Service Council's Holiday Angel Tree Program. Adopt an angel through Nov. 17 in HSC Room 230 or by contacting David Dada at dldad@uab.edu and return the gifts to HSC Room 230 by Dec. 1.

“We are all blessed with so much. Whether you are an individual, family, organization or club, this is your chance to help spread holiday joy and cheer to those less fortunate,” said Dada, the Angel Tree coordinator and a Staff Council representative.

Toys for tots

Employees can also donate new, unwrapped toys to the UAB Toy Drive, an annual campus tradition for 24 years. Donations will be given to Toys for Tots, and drop-off boxes are located in the Administration Building, Bartow Arena, Cudworth Building, Heritage Hall, Medical Towers, Worrell Building, UAB Police Headquarters, Mervyn Sterne Library, TechConnect at Hill Student CenterFacilities Administration, Hoehn Engineering Building, Lister Hill Library, the School of Optometry, Research Support Building and School of Nursing.

“This is your chance to help spread holiday joy and cheer to those less fortunate.”

UAB Information Technology and UAB Police Department volunteers will pick up the toys Dec. 11 and collect them in the lobby of the Administration Building, where Santa Claus will be accepting last-minute donations.

GEAR Up for goodness

Support the students in UAB's GEAR UP Alabama Black Belt community schools with a donation of socks — fuzzy socks, slipper socks, fun socks and more. Drop them off in Education Building rooms 100, 126 and 217. Note cards are there for you to include a favorite quote or inspirational message that would be encouraging to any child.
