Apply for, donate to tornado relief funds for UAB employees

tornado relief streamUAB employees who incurred property damage to their home or vehicles or sustained personal injury following the Jan. 26 Fultondale tornado can apply for financial assistance through the UAB Employee Emergency Assistance Program (EEAP), operated through the UAB Benevolent Fund. Consideration appointments are held virtually via Zoom; to apply or find out more about the program, contact the Benevolent Fund office at 205-825-6282 or by email at benevolentfund@uab.edu.

For Blazers in need of food, Blazer Kitchen locations at Medical Towers and Hill Student Center are open for drive-thru pick-up and online ordering; email blazerkitchen@uab.edu for more information. The Benevolent Fund also can connect employees, students and patients with nonprofit community partners working to assist those affected by the tornado.

“The Benevolent Fund relies on the generosity of UAB employee contributions to fund the assistance we provide through the EEAP and Blazer Kitchen,” said Lisa Higginbotham, Benevolent Fund manager. “Contributions also support charities such as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Birmingham Hands On and United Way Disaster Fund, which are critical to providing immediate and long-term disaster relief.”
