The beginning of the spring semester led to some great people-watching, despite the chilly weather. Check out our photographers’ favorite photos from last month.
“I feel like this is how the whole UAB world feels when Blaze walks in the room. Blaze was on his best form at a UAB brand event at the Bookstore this month, so there was a lot of fun imagery to capture of everyone's favorite dragon. I just loved how absolutely smitten this person looked!” — Ian Logue, university photographer
“January 12 was the first day of the spring semester and students seemed very enthusiastic and social. There were a lot of smiling faces and students interacting with one another between classes. It was nice to see and document, since that week was especially beautiful.”— Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer
“I had the pleasure of photographing Dr. Mikaela Pyrch and her lab. Dr. Pyrch set up her first lab with a significant number of supplies she received from the UAB Green Marketplace. It was a super fun time. Everyone in there was great on camera and very willing to participate. I enjoyed this shot of Dr. Pyrch and one of her students using some of their new (to them) equipment.”— Ian Logue, university photographer
“Terri Poe was named the first chief nursing executive for UAB Health System in January and I had the honor of photographing her. I find it serendipitous when the environment and the subject are in visual harmony; the subtle yellow and rich teal of the background complement the colors in her blouse and blazer. I also like this portrait because she's a really kind soul, and I think that's communicated through her eyes."— Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer
“I loved the light in this shot of UAB President Dr. Ray Watts speaking at the grand opening of Live HealthSmart Alabama's new Mobile Market. The light coming in through the gymnasium windows backlighting the podium is so aesthetically pleasing to me. I love finding new interesting angles from which to shoot routine events. I also enjoy that this shot contains another photographer taking photos from within the audience, getting an angle that is much more the norm for this sort of event.” — Ian Logue, university photographer
"I worked on a stock photography assignment photographing UAB’s Beacon Recovery Program in January. I love getting to add much-needed imagery to our Digital Asset Library. The idea of making someone else's job easier because they have the photos needed is gratifying."— Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer
