Yates to spend the summer in Cape Town as a Fulbright specialist

yates wStephanie Yates, Ph.D., associate professor of finance, will travel to the University of Cape Town in South Africa to work during July and August as a specialist in the Fulbright Program.

There, Yates will consult with the director of its African Institute for Financial Markets and Risk Management, which was launched in January to develop local talent to meet the demands of industry for skills in the banking‚ risk management and financial market sectors. She will help identify knowledge gaps and offer advice on curriculum design to improve the depth of expertise of postgraduate professionals that will enable them to have an immediate positive impact in the companies they join.

At UAB, Yates teaches finance and accounting and her research centers on real estate and investments. The Fulbright Specialist Program provides short-term academic opportunities to U.S. faculty and professionals to support curricular and faculty development and institutional planning at post-secondary institutions around the world.
