Andi Mathews sizedAndrea Mathews, program manager for Behavioral and Population Sciences in the UAB School of Dentistry, has been named Employee of the Year. Mathews was chosen from the 12 Employee of the Month award winners named this past fiscal year. An invitation-only presentation ceremony and reception honoring her with the highest non-academic employee award will be held later this fall.

Mathews helped develop the National Dental PBRN, the first statewide dental practice-based research network in the nation. Since 2002 the network has received more than $94 million in funding, and will soon involve more than 5,000 U.S. dental practitioners providing general dental and specialty care in a wide range of clinical settings. Mathews works with six regions, more than 40 network staff and a six-member executive committee to ensure that all parties are connected to the administrative base and comply with the requirements and goals of the project.

“Each day I join a team of talented and hardworking individuals who go the extra mile in their jobs and even more in the community at-large,” Mathews said. “I believe that employees at the University of Alabama at Birmingham should go the extra mile because in doing so we sustain a professional community committed to service, integrity and achievement.”
