Three decades of experience makes Price the heart of OH&S

Sherri Price sizedWhen they have a question, employees in Occupational Health and Safety know they can ask Administrative Supervisor Sherri Price. She’s been with the department for more than 30 years.

“I was fortunate to join UAB and OH&S at a time of growth and was able to stay in the same department and advance as our department grew and changed,” Price said.

“Sherri’s wide range of knowledge, her eagerness to help and the speed at which she gets things done make her a vital member of the OH&S team,” said Justin Roth, assistant biosafety officer. “She is typically the first person we go to when we run into trouble or need a solution to the myriad problems we face.”

Price’s co-workers say she is always available to help, even if it means she needs to drop what she’s doing. Her hard work and institutional knowledge bring value to the department.

“Sherri is the heart of our department,” said Cathy Pierce, office associate. “She is always cheerfully helping and pitching in without being asked. She is respectful of others. She is reliable and dedicated to doing a great job. A day doesn't go by that someone doesn't say, ‘Ask Sherri.’”

Price said she’s most proud of working in the same department at UAB for more than 30 years and being able to help advance and develop programs.

Each month, UAB recognizes an outstanding employee for their dedication, hard work and contributions to the university’s success. If you know of a great employee, nominate them at uab.edu/humanresources.

“When I began at UAB in OH&S our department only had a few programs and probably 10 employees,” Price said. “Due to the growth of UAB, our department had to grow along with it and that afforded me the ability to take on more duties, roles and responsibilities and advance along with the department. We now have more than 12 program areas and 50 employees.”

Price said her co-workers keep her motivated to go the extra mile because they are passionate about their work.

“My co-workers are like family,” Price said. “We actually call each other our OH&S family. Everyone knows that the work they do makes a difference, and they enjoy doing it.”

When she’s not at work Price and her husband Jamie enjoy exercise and being involved in their church.

“On a personal level, I am truly blessed,” Price said. “I have an amazing family that loves and supports me.”
