Sloan, Bangalore to lead cyber research center

He will report jointly to Robert Palazzo, Ph.D., dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and to Richard Marchase, Ph.D., vice president for Research and Economic Development.

The new assistant director is Purushotham Bangalore, Ph.D., associate professor of Computer and Information Sciences, whose primary research interests are grid and high-performance computing.

The interdisciplinary center creates, tests, implements and refines tools to strengthen defenses against potential attacks on information and collaborates with law-enforcement and industry partners to translate research and development into real-world results. In July, the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security again designated UAB as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance and Cyber Defense Research.
