Cyprès named associate provost, Robinson to serve as School of Education interim dean

In this role, Cyprès will lead a university-wide strategic review of UAB’s continuing education efforts and make recommendations for next steps toward meeting the goals of UAB’s strategic plan, Forging the Future.

“I am grateful to Dean Cyprès for her service,” said UAB Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Pam Benoit. “She has kept the School of Education’s enrollment stable during a difficult period of time and led the school’s move into a building that provides a better environment for students, faculty and staff. We look forward to her helping us meet the lifelong learning needs of the communities we serve.”

Michelle Robinson, DMD, associate professor and senior associate dean in the School of Dentistry, will become the interim dean of UAB School of Education, effective Oct. 1. Robinson served as interim dean of the School of Dentistry from May 2018 to June 2019. 

“Dr. Robinson is an accomplished academic in dentistry and has shown tremendous administrative and interpersonal skills,” Benoit said. “She is a very talented administrator and an exceptional listener with strong relationships across the campus.” 

Robinson will lead a strategic review of the School of Education’s missions, which range from educating early childhood teachers, to K-12 teachers and principals, to higher education administrators, to kinesiologists and community counselors.

School of Dentistry Dean Russell Taichman, DMD, says Robinson will continue to be involved in important projects underway in the School of Dentistry.

A national search for a permanent dean in the School of Education will begin in 2021.
