More than 400 employees registered to compete as Team UAB or Team UAB Medicine during the fourth annual Birmingham Corporate Challenge, held April 21 in Railroad Park.

The teams placed in three events. Team UAB, led by Employee Wellness Director Anna Threadcraft, placed third in the 10K bike stroll, and Team UAB Medicine, led by Wellness Specialist Riley Thornton, placed second in the 5K run and third in the one-mile fitness walk.

“It was a great day filled with activity, fun and amazing teamwork,” Thornton said. “I’m so proud of everyone who competed.”

Birmingham Corporate Challenge promotes fitness and healthy competition among Birmingham-area businesses and organizations. The 2018 event drew participants from more than 25 businesses and their families and friends.

UAB HR Support Coordinator Cathy Tanner, who represented Team UAB in the 10K bike stroll and the one-mile fitness walk, was joined by her sisters who live in Mobile.

“My family and I had a wonderful time and are looking forward to greater participation next year,” Tanner said.
