UAB Employee Wellness was recognized for its holistic view of employee well-being and its role in increasing colorectal cancer screenings and awareness among UAB employees. Through initiatives such as the “Love Your Bum, Get It Screened” campaign and lunch-and-learns, colorectal cancer screenings among UAB employees enrolled in a medical plan increased from 54% in 2014 to 68% in 2019. UAB earned the 80% in Every Community National Achievement Award grand prize in honor of this achievement from the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable earlier this year.

“It’s encouraging to see UAB recognized for the efforts organization-wide to promote employee well-being,” said Wellness specialist Riley Thornton. “As Alabama’s largest single employer, it shows other organizations UAB’s commitment to creating a culture of wellness for employees, students and community members.”

In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Employee Wellness continues to offer innovative health and wellness resources for employees during limited and modified business operations, including online tools through the My Health Rewards program and upcoming Summer of Wellness virtual programs.
