Strengthen postdoc-mentor relationships April 21-23

mentoring2Several free events to strengthen postdoctoral training, development and diversity are open to UAB faculty and postdoctoral trainees April 21-23.

Kenneth Gibbs, Ph.D., Cancer Prevention Fellow at the National Cancer Institute, will speak on effective mentoring practices during an event, “Inside the Mind of Today's Trainee: Understanding Students and Postdocs for Effective Mentoring,” to be held noon April 21 in the Edge of Chaos. It is open to all trainees and faculty.

Gibbs, who also is a member of the board of directors for the National Postdoctoral Association, conducts policy-relevant research aimed at strengthening biomedical graduate and postdoctoral training, workforce development and workforce diversity.

Theater Delta, from Raleigh, North Carolina, will perform an interactive mentoring skit and conduct a Q&A session during an event, “Cultivation: an Interactive Theater performance on Faculty,” to be held noon April 22 in Bevill Biomedical Research Building Room 170. It is open to all trainees and faculty.

A full-day Mentoring Academy for new and junior faculty will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 23 in the DoubleTree Hotel. It will include interactive discussions and networking opportunities for participants. For information or to register contact Lisa Schwiebert, Ph.D.
