TechKnow: IT

This month, UAB IT launched its TechKnow podcast, with the goal of helping the UAB community better connect with technology on campus. For the kickoff episode, presenters discuss the latest phishing attacks preying on campus users, coming upgrades to Outlook for iOS and MacOS users, the rollout of the AskBlaze student chatbot in the UAB app and results from recent IT TechDebates polls on screen-time tracking, among other topics.

TechKnow is one of a growing number of podcasts sharing information from UAB experts, thoughts from senior leaders — and the personal stories of members of the UAB community.

Clinical Pearls: School of Nursing

The School of Nursing’s Clinical Pearls is a bi-weekly podcast in which faculty share their expertise on current health care topics. Recent episodes have covered the traumatic health reaction to violence, how to care for individuals with life-threatening bleeding, and the link between obstructive sleep apnea and workplace injuries.

Interested in starting your own podcast? In an upcoming story, we’ll talk to UAB staff podcasters about the equipment you need, the time it takes and other tips. Do you have questions you want answered? Let us know at reporter@uab.edu.

Clinical Pearls listeners can earn CEU continuing education credits through links on the companion videos for each episode.

UAB MedCast: UAB Medicine

Continuing education is also the goal of UAB Medicine’s UAB MedCast. Episodes feature speakers from across the Health System, who share the latest information on their areas of expertise with providers. Recent topics include UAB outreach in kidney and liver transplantation, tummy tucks and liposuction, and management of Crohn’s disease and colitis.

The Checkup: School of Medicine

School of Medicine Dean Selwyn Vickers, M.D., created The Checkup podcast to give faculty and staff an opportunity to know him and members of his leadership team “on a more conversation level,” he explained in the series’ first episode, which focused on School of Medicine results from the Campus Engagement Survey. In the subsequent two episodes, Vickers discussed the school’s gender equity compensation review and introduced new O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center Director Barry Sleckman, M.D., Ph.D.

UAB Memories: University Relations

The UAB Memories podcast shares stories from the institution’s 50th anniversary oral history project. The weekly episodes feature firsthand accounts of UAB history, including the vital contributions of black students and employees, the original students who helped this upstart university grow in the 1970s and the travails of a team taking part in UAB’s signature Homecoming event, the Gurney Derby.
