The 2024 honorees for the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching represent each school, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Honors College, and the Graduate School.

The UA System Board of Trustees awarded the rank of Distinguished Professor to Robert Brunner, Yogesh Dwivedi, Helen Krontiras, Cora Elizabeth Lewis, David M. Morris and Michele H. Nichols and the rank of University Professor to Marie Bakitas, Mirjam-Colette Kempf, Verna Keith, Michael Neiderweis and David Vance during its meeting in April 2024.

Johnny W. Scott, M.D., Ph.D., professor of nuclear medicine in the Department of Radiology, graduated from the School of Medicine in 1975 and has been a member of the faculty since 1978. Last month, he was honored for 45 years of service.

Spenney, Joseph G. Van Matre and Richard J. Whitley will be honored for 50 years of service to UAB, and George M. Munchus III, Gregory E. Pence, Donna J. Slovenksy and Michael V. Yester will be honored for 45.

Robert Centor, M.D., one of the world’s leading experts on sore throat and a mentor to generations of medical students, will receive the highest honor of the Academic Health Center.

For his dedication to aging research and science communication, biology Professor and Chair Steven Austad, Ph.D., has been awarded this year’s Ireland Prize for Scholarly Distinction.
