For more than 30 years, UAB’s Alabama Clinical Research Site has been at the forefront of HIV and infectious disease research, conducting studies through national clinical trials networks. We are currently building a registry of adults who are interested in being contacted about future research opportunities at the Alabama Clinical Research Site. People we are looking for include: Adults 18 and older who live in or near Birmingham People who are living with HIV and receiving care People who do not have HIV but are interested in HIV prevention, vaccines, or other infectious disease research Community members from groups most impacted by HIV in Alabama who want to help shape future prevention and treatment options Joining the registry only means we may contact you to explain future studies; you are never obligated to enroll. The purpose of this research study is to better understand the long-term effects of COVID-19, and who is at greatest risk of having long-term effects. We will do this by studying people with, and without, a history of COVID-19 over several years. This is part of a nation-wide research initiative called RECOVER. If you are interested contact COVID-19research@uabmc.eduThis study will last up to four years and will involve doing in-person visits every 6 months and filling out an online questionnaire from home every 3 months. At the first study visit you will be asked a series of questions or fill out a questionnaire about who you are (such as age, sex, or race), medical conditions that may affect the chances of having long-term effects of COVID-19, whether you have been vaccinated against COVID-19, and any symptoms you currently have. You will have a brief medical exam and we will also collect samples of your blood, saliva, stool, nasal swab and urine. Some participants will be invited for additional medical examinations and tests. You will be compensated.

Recovering from COVID-19?Still have problems with confusion, slow thinking, or memory? If so, you may eligible to take part in a study testing a new form of cognitive training designed to improve how quickly you process information and perform daily activities. The study pays participants $20 per training session on average. The training program, which requires several visits to UAB, can be tailored to fit your schedule.
