The 2021 Marchase Interdisciplinary Research Symposium was held in the School of Nursing Great Hall on November 1, 2021. The symposium is a high-profile opportunity for UAB to celebrate and encourage interdisciplinary research among members of the campus research community, including research trainees and students. The Friends of Richard B. “Dick” Marchase, Ph.D., UWIRC Endowed Award was established in 2018 to support an award for and to recognize a UAB investigator in leading or promoting interdisciplinary research across campus in the spirit of camaraderie that Dr. Marchase personifies.
Dr. Rochelle Walensky, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was the keynote speaker at this year’s event, followed by a panel discussion lead by Drs. Jeanne Marrazzo and Michael Saag. The 2021 Marchase award winner, Dr. Andrea Cherrington, presented, “The Importance of Using a Team Approach in Health Equity Research”.
