Simulation News

SuperUser CVL 25OIPS, in collaboration with the Center for Nursing Excellence and UAB Nursing administration, is implementing a new training process for Central Line Dressing change procedure. The new training process for central line dressing includes three distinct phases. Phase one included the deployment of an online training module for familiarization with the new dressing product and a refresher for the CVL dressing change procedure as well as training for "Super Users" who were tasked with implementation of phase two. Phase two of CVL Dressing training was implemented house-wide over three weeks in March. This phase involved check off of the dressing change procedure for a total of 2,267 UAB nurses, facilitated by the super users trained in phase one. This skills validation training model is based on the mastery learning model in medical education and uncoached competency evaluation in nursing education. Phase three of this plan will involve coached sessions in the simulation lab as needed. Targeted focus groups and surveys sent to super users and end users have been sent to elicit feedback to improve this process for future implementation plans. Thank you to all who participated in this massive effort to provide meaningful, efficient education to our nurses and improve patient outcomes at UAB.
