IMG 20180116 130630This January, OIPS team members travelled to Los Angeles to present UAB's innovative simulation work at the world's largest conference dedicated to healthcare simulation learning, research and scholarship. At the 18th Annual International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH), the OIPS team presented three oral presentations focused on the development and implementation of the comprehensive vascular access team curriculum, the benefits of AIDET training for patient care technicians, and the use of IV sedation emergencies in the dental office.

April Belle et al and David Mathews et al demonstrated two novel items in the Spectrum of Ideas showcase including how we developed an attachable/wearable peripheral IV device and how we used a high fidelity interactive tabletop for process testing. Erin Blanchard presented a research poster demonstrating outcomes of how AIDET education simulations improved patient experience scores.  And, our team participated in 1 panel presentation highlighting the role of academic partnerships in simulation.

Detailed information on poster presentations are here on our website. In addition, we are proud of the OIPS partnerships within UAB as well as partnerships with national and international colleagues which resulted in 6 additional workshops including the L-S-P-P-D-M approach in procedural skills, rapid cycle deliberate practice, ways to improve debriefing skills and faculty development, and the use of multi-patient simulation. Our team gained insight into new products and technology, innovative research directions, and networked with national and international colleagues on how to innovate healthcare with simulation.
