UAB sent 29 faculty and staff to the 20th Annual International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) which was held in San Diego, CA from January 19 – January 22. Attendees came from the SON, SOM, SHP, SOD, OSPE, UAB Clinical Simulation / OIPS, and the Pediatric Simulation Center at Children’s of Alabama (COA). IMSH is sponsored by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) which is the accrediting body for simulation centers around the globe.

Attendees were involved in either facilitating program content, scholarly presentation, or in the official work of the Society in its special programs. Many who attended the conference also serve in the leadership of and/or are members of sections, interest groups and/or affinity groups of the Society. One attendee from Arkansas reached out to our simulationists before the conference expressing interest in the many sessions that were presented. He commented…”I’m writing to say I’m greatly looking forward to your sessions. I’ve encountered UAB at a couple of conferences now, and I’ve walked away with practice changes each time. I’ve encouraged my colleagues attending IMSH this year to look out for your sessions. Thank you for the great work you’re doing”.

On Friday, January 24th, attendees from UAB and COA met at the Edge of Chaos to share lessons learned from the conference with the wider UAB simulation community. This is one way simulationists work to build a community of practice within the UAB enterprise.
