UAB Athletics is actively monitoring the situation regarding the coronavirus. UAB Athletics is following the University’s lead on the coronavirus response.

The department is currently proceeding with normal domestic travel and crowds at sporting events. All nonessential and international travel such as overseas recruiting has been suspended per Ted Feeley, Associate Athletics Director for Communications.

“There’s been previous guidance about travel, about international travel, looking at impacted areas, and thinking about the risks of doing any international travel, Provost Pam Benoit said in a press conference earlier today.

The Men’s Tennis team did cancel a tournament in California that was scheduled to take place over Spring Break.

“We want to obviously be very aware of the situation, and not (doing) anything to harm our student athletes is the number one thing,” said Feeley.

Coronavirus precautions at sporting events have taken increased importance in recent days with the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments both being closed to the general public.
