Update regarding parking fees
We understand you may have questions regarding parking fees for this semester – and any possible refunds. When an unprecedented and quickly evolving disruptive event occurs, it can be difficult to have all the answers right away. Going to online/alternate learning and limited business operations due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is an example.

Express Lot 4 parkers reassigned to decks
As a result of UAB’s ongoing emergency response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and the need for hospital employees to have easier access to their work location, UAB Transportation is temporarily reassigning Express Lot 4 parkers to decks closer to the hospital. This will go into effect tomorrow, Thursday, March 19.

In coordination with university efforts to flatten the curve of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic through social distancing and online/alternative instruction, Summer and 2020-21 Academic Year student parking permit sales have been postponed until further notice.

Student permits available April 1st, rates increasing
Parking permits for the summer semester and the 2020-21 academic year will be available for purchase beginning April 1st. You can find a full list of permit options, as well as pricing, on the Student Rates page.
The rates are increasing this year, in line with the comprehensive transportation plan created in 2016. The plan was created to manage existing and future demand, create a more fiscally sustainable transportation system and improve customer service for the entire enterprise – UAB and UAB Medicine – that is compatible with the campus master plan.

Effective midnight March 13th, UAB Transportation is suspending several Blazer Express routes until further notice. This decision is being made to best allocate resources as UAB moves to remote teaching for the coming weeks.

UAB employees and students may now request Safety Escort and Blaze Ride service via the smartphone app, TapRide by DoubleMap.

There are fewer people on campus after 5 p.m. most days, and you may think parking in any open space is allowed – but beware you might still get a ticket.

This year, UAB Transportation introduced new zone options for the fall and spring semesters to reduce the time spent searching for a parking space. With the fall semester just around the corner, parking permits are limited and selling fast. Students should apply for a permit on July 15 to ensure their desired zone is still available, as exchanges may not be possible.

Safety Escort will offer reduced service Wednesday, July 3, and return to normal service at 9 p.m. on July 4.
