The Benevolent Fund also presented its annual awards to schools, departments and divisions at the luncheon:
• Leadership Award — Health Services Foundation
The Leadership Award is presented to the area that increases the number and dollar amount of donors contributing at least $1,000 per year.
• Shining Star Award — Mervyn H. Sterne Library
The Shining Star Award is presented to the most outstanding campaign in an area with 100 or less employees.
• Most Innovative Campaign — Viva Health
Most Innovative Campaign is presented to the campaign that goes the extra mile to involve all employees, use creative themes and make the campaign fun for everyone all the while achieving a successful campaign.
• Super Hero Award — School of Health Professions
The Super Hero Award is given to an area that consistently has a strong campaign year after year with many new givers and strong overall performance.
• Campaign Growth Champion — Callahan Eye Hospital
Campaign Growth Champion goes to the area that shows dramatic improvement in campaign dollars, total givers and overall campaign activity.
• Best Overall Campaign — Health Service Foundation
Best Overall Campaign is awarded to the campaign that does it all. The Health Service Foundation involved people from all areas in awareness and fundraising activities.
UAB’s Benevolent Fund kicks off 2013 campaign asking employees to give help, give hope.
The UAB Benevolent Fund is now accepting applications for 2014 Independent Agency Grants. The deadline for 2014 applications is Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 5:00 PM.
Non-profit agencies, with a primary purpose to provide service, education and/or research to meet human healthcare needs and social services, are invited to review the eligibility criteria and apply for a grant if appropriate. Non-profit agencies that receive Benevolent Fund designations through United Way or local health agency designation may not apply for additional funding through the Independent Agency Grant process. Organizations are approved and funded on a one-year basis. Then they rotate off the funding schedule for 1 year and may reapply for the following year. .
The UAB Benevolent Fund creates opportunities for a better community through employee emergency assistance and donations to independent agencies, local health agencies and the United Way, funded solely by UAB employee contributions. General information and applications can be found here.
The Benevolent Fund makes giving easy through payroll deductions. Over the course of a year, your pledge combined with pledges from other employees will result in a tremendous amount of hope spread throughout our community. Your gift to the Benevolent Fund is tax deductible. We are counting on you to participate at the level that is right for you.
The Benevolent Fund, founded and governed by UAB employees, recognizes the importance of giving back to our community. It benefits more than 120 charitable and health organizations; additionally, it provides valuable assistance to qualifying co-workers through the Employee Emergency Assistance Program. Our energy for continuing this work is strong – we are excited about the addition of several new health agencies to the Fund this year.
