Last year with 34% of our employees contributing, the Benevolent Fund was able to raise $1.82 million. Our goal this year is to raise $1.85 million and we have a stretch goal –A Goal of Hope -- to raise $1.9 million. I believe we can not only meet our goal but exceed our goals and give even more hope to our community.

If every employee who did not contribute to the Benevolent Fund last year pledged just $1 per month, we would raise an additional $150,000! We would exceed our fundraising goal for the year and reach our Goal of Hope for our community.

$1 a month can fund:

                3 generic prescriptions for a co-worker through the Employee Emergency Assistance Program
                7.5 pounds of groceries for a food bank or shelter such as United Way Community Food Bank and Pathways      
                KidCheck Plus head-to-toe health screening for one child that does not have insurance through Sight Savers

New Local Health Agencies

In 2013, the Benevolent Fund Council added the following local health agencies. In addition to the agencies that have long been part of the Benevolent Fund, employees are now able to designate their contributions to support these valuable programs. All of the new agencies have a unique partnership with UAB and we are pleased to include them as part of the Benevolent Fund.

Council Member Nominations

We are accepting nominations through May 31, 2013 for employees wishing to serve a 2-year term on the Benevolent Fund Council.  Members are elected by the current council to represent all areas within UAB.  For a nomination form, please click here.

Giving Made Easy

The Benevolent Fund makes giving easy through payroll deductions.  Over the course of a year, your pledge combined with pledges from other employees will result in a tremendous amount of hope spread throughout our community. Your gift to the Benevolent Fund is tax deductible. We are counting on you to participate at the level that is right for you.


The Benevolent Fund, founded and governed by UAB employees, recognizes the importance of giving back to our community. It benefits more than 120 charitable and health organizations; additionally, it provides valuable assistance to qualifying co-workers through the Employee Emergency Assistance Program. Our energy for continuing this work is strong – we are excited about the addition of several new health agencies to the Fund this year.
