Academic Programs

The department of biology offers a flexible undergraduate program that prepares students for entry into advanced professional health fields including medicine, dentistry, and optometry.

Graduate programs offer opportunities for research at all levels of biological organization, with emphases on ecophysiology, cellular and molecular biology, endocrinology, and ecology of aquatic organisms, or on models related to human disease.

The department also offers a fifth year Master of Science in biology program that provides mentorship during undergraduate study and supplements professional degrees such as medicine, dentistry, and optometry. The program prepares the student for a Ph.D. degree program in the biological sciences or a future health professions career and also builds teaching skills for academic careers.
