Kimberly Schnormeier currently teaches courses in costume design and costume history & period style and has previously taught courses in costume construction, patterning, rendering and introduction to design. She has designed costumes for over sixty UAB Theatre productions and mentored numerous student costume designers. Ms. Schnormeier has designed costumes for many professional companies including Birmingham Children's Theatre, Horizon Theatre Company, the Ashlawn-Highland Summer Opera Festival, West Virginia Public Theatre, Victory Gardens Theatre, and the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Prior to her tenure at UAB, she was a free-lance designer in Chicago and worked for several years as a cutter/draper at Northwestern University.

Ms. Schnormeier is the founder and curator of the department’s historic costume study collection, which holds a variety of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and accessories dating from the mid-nineteenth century to the late twentieth century. She is an active member of the Costume Society of America.

In 2009, she was named as Outstanding Faculty Advisor at UAB and was recognized as an Outstanding Faculty Advisor by the National Academic Advising Association. In addition to her appointment in the Theatre Department, Ms. Schnormeier also served as an Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences.
