About the Program

You can a make a big impact in your community's health by understanding its cultural, social, and psychological influencers. With a PhD in Medical Sociology, you'll be prepared for a career as a leader education, research, public health, and more.

In fact, our program dives deep into the issues you'll run into every day of your career: sociology, public health, medicine—you name it. We want you to be able to meet those challenges head on. That's why our program is so rigorous. For instance, you're required to design and conduct research contributing to the provision of high-quality and cost-effective health care and social services. Plus, in addition to your coursework and research, you'll need to teach at least one undergraduate course in the Department of Sociology. Finally, we want you to consider your career goals and choose a specialty such as aging and health, health behaviors, health and family, or community health, then we want you to pass a comprehensive exam on your area.
