About the Program

You've got a strong background in this study of population health, but now you're ready to cultivate your knowledge to the highest degree. Our highly competitive PhD program will give you exceptional training for a career in research or teaching.

In fact, by the time you graduate, you should have a thorough understanding of how to study designs and statistical analyses that investigate the causes of disease, as well as a comprehensive knowledge about the distribution and development of new methods for disease control and prevention. Among your 60 hours of academic coursework will be classes that cover biostatistics, didactic epidemiology, scientific integrity, and more. In addition, you can concentrate on infectious disease, chronic disease, epidemiologic methods, pharmacoepidemiology, or genetic epidemiology. Finally, you'll round out the program with directed research, dissertation research, and at least two semesters of candidacy.
