Instilling the confidence and self-discipline necessary to enable our emergency medicine residents

Welcome to the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, one of the premier clinical, educational, and research institutions in the United States. The program is fully accredited by the ACGME Residency Review Committee for Emergency Medicine, and trains world-class emergency physicians through a challenging, hands-on patient care experience.

The major clinical facility within the Medical Center is UAB Hospital, consisting of approximately 1,100 beds. The North Pavilion, opened in 2004, houses the University Emergency Department as well as a number of inpatient medical, surgical, and critical care beds and operating suites. Clinical training also takes place at Children's of Alabama, a 380-bed freestanding pediatric specialty hospital.

The UAB Emergency Medicine Residency Program provides residents with exposure to a wide variety of critical adult and pediatric illnesses and injuries. Through a carefully graduated learning experience, residents are provided appropriate direction and teaching to many disease states first at a basic level, progressing to increased patient care responsibilities.
