I wanted to train and practice in the city that invested so much in me growing up. Also, I learn by seeing and doing so I needed a program that had a large patient population. UAB has a very large net and being the sole children's hospital in the entire state was very attractive.

The people! The residents are a big family and the faculty are so supportive. I also love how many opportunities for research, service, and community involvement are available to us at UAB and how we are encouraged to explore our interests.

I chose UAB because I couldn't imagine getting better training anywhere else. When I looked around at the residents that I worked with as a medical student, I saw people that were hardworking, loved the program, and were people that I wanted to be friends with!

Why did you choose UAB for your Pediatric Residency?

I fell in love with the program as a student and could not bring myself to leave this program, these people, this hospital, or this city! Everyone is so welcoming and supportive and I knew there would be so many kids for me to learn from in the large children's hospital.

Very excited to go back to movie theaters, binge reading, grocery shopping, outdoor activities (especially leisurely strolls).

I consume a surprising amount of guacamole for someone who has a mild avocado allergy and generally hates any food that could be described as "mushy."

Why did you choose UAB for your Pediatric Residency?

Children's of Alabama has a reputation for treating lots of kids across the state and region; I wanted to be able to experience that diversity of patients in my training. When I interviewed, I got the sense that the program leadership always goes above and beyond for their residents and that everyone looks out for each other like family.

When I'm not at the hospital, I like to get outside with my family: my wife, two boys, and our golden doodle, Wrigley. We like to hike, swim, and boat whenever we can soak up the Alabama sun. On weekend mornings, you can find me watching Premier League matches with coffee and pancakes.

I was in attendance for the 7th largest gathering in human history (Chicago Cubs' World Series parade - 2016) and part of the largest crowd to ever watch a soccer game in the US (Manchester United vs. Real Madrid - 2014).

There are so many reasons I chose this program! I was drawn by the programs strong emphasis on resident wellness. They provide residents with many outlets to combat the stresses of residency. I also couples matched and the programs my partner and I matched in were accommodating and supportive of us. They also provide many opportunities for advocacy, research, and quality improvement. Most of all the camaraderie among residents and faculty is amazing!
