Adult Cystic Fibrosis
Welcome to the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. We are accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We currently care for over 180 individuals with Cystic Fibrosis.
The UAB Department of Medicine, in concert with UAB Hospital, has supported the development of an Adult CF program with a team of health care personnel to provide comprehensive, evidence based clinical care for adult patients with cystic fibrosis. These include a multidisciplinary team made up of nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, social workers and physicians.
The Adult CF care team, led by Dr. Veena Antony, will develop an integrated practice unit where multiple and multidisciplinary providers can evaluate patients during a single clinic visit and deliver state of the art care. The program will also work closely with our pediatric colleagues and the greater CF community to provide seamless care while developing rigorous quality improvement initiatives with public transparency of outcomes.
The Adult CF Program will also integrate seamlessly with the UAB CF clinical trials unit, led by Dr. Steven M. Rowe, and the Gregory Fleming James Cystic Fibrosis Research Center, led by Dr. Eric J. Sorscher. The center is recognized internationally for its transformative clinical and basic research, including the development of new therapies for the treatment of this devastating disease.
