With the historic milestone of our program’s first kidney transplant performed in 1968, UAB launched an inspiring journey of innovation and achievement that today is approaching five decades.
From that first transplant, accomplished through the implementation of ABO- and HLA-incompatible kidney transplantation , living donation for kidney and recently liver transplant, uterus transplant, to the adoption of robotic approaches for donor nephrectomies and kidney transplants, UAB has developed a rich tradition in solid organ transplantation.
