Biography

Dr. Daniel Cox joined the Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery in July 2018 as an associate professor of surgery and as the new trauma medical director.

Cox is a graduate of the UAB School of Medicine and completed general surgery and surgical critical care fellowships at UAB before beginning his military service in 2012.

Cox is a former active-duty Air Force surgeon assigned as the medical director for en route care in the Office of the Command Surgeon, Air Mobility Command. Cox has completed several military deployments, most notably serving as trauma czar, chief of surgery and surgical services flight commander at Craig Joint Theater Hospital in Bagram, Afghanistan. In 2022, he was promoted to full Colonel.
