• UAB Football donations due tomorrow. Why?

(Photo by Stephanie Lockhart)Hatton Smith, head of national accounts and food service for Royal Cup Coffee, had his staffers throwing small green plastic footballs throughout Alumni Hall at UAB's Alumni House. They were flying wildly throughout the conference room; some hitting inattentive patrons in the head, and in one case, clanging loudly from a sousaphone.

    The footballs were adorned with information on the return of UAB football, and because of the symbology, found themselves being held high above the heads of cheering UAB fans as the band played and the Golden Girls danced through the narrow aisles of Alumni Hall. Read more...

    During a time when the media is frequently colored by episodes of police brutality, Piyush Borse and Karan Jani, both UAB students, were featured this weekend at the Sidewalk Film Festival for their expose film of the Birmingham Police Department.

    The decision to kill the football program at UAB affected more than just those athletes and coaches: without football, the cheerleaders, Golden Girls and the mascot Blaze were left with a lacking fall schedule.
