UABTeach—Recruiting a New Generation of STEM Teachers

UABTeach Dragon says "I teach. What's your superpower?"
Do you want to be part of something amazing? With UABTeach, you can earn a STEM degree and become a teacher in just four years.

UABTeach is an innovative program designed to quickly produce a new teaching force of highly qualified instructors in STEM subjects — science, technology, engineering, and math — and we want you to be part of it! You can try the introductory courses (Step1 and Step2) for free.

UABTeach lets undergraduate students majoring in math or science receive both their subject matter degree and full teaching certification in four years at no extra time or cost. Engineering students can earn their degree and certificate in as few as 9 semesters. That means you'll have more career options after graduation — you’ll be able to go directly into teaching, a STEM profession, or graduate school. And computer science students will be able to join the program soon.

The UABTeach program welcomed its first students in the 2014 Fall Semester. Students can begin the program in either fall or spring semesters. Interested in joining us? Start here to learn more.

Ready to get started with UABTeach?

It's easy! All you need to do is enroll in EHS 125: Inquiry Approaches to Teaching. You'll pay tuition with your other fall classes, and if you successfully complete the course you'll get a refund at the end of the semester.

The Program

UABTeach is modeled on the very successful UTeach model first developed in 1997 at The University of Texas at Austin. It is supported with funding from the UTeach Institute, the National Math and Science Initiative, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
