Spark Your Fire Arts Competition

The Spark Your Fire Arts Competition, hosted by the Blazer Spirit Council, is a showcase for UAB students to express what The Blazer Way means to them through various art forms. The deadline to enter in the Spark Your Fire Arts Competition is January 29, 2024 at 11:59pm CT. Participants will showcase their work or perform on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in the Hill Student Center Ballrooms at 6pm.


  • 1st Place - $500 Scholarship
  • 2nd Place - $250 Scholarship

  • 1. All submissions must incorporate one or more tenets of the Blazer Way (UAB’s Creed).
    • a. Honor and Integrity
    • b. Diversity
    • c. Innovation
    • d. Service
    • e. Scholarship
  • 2. All participants must have a minimum 2.5 UAB cumulative GPA to participate.
  • 3. Participants may submit original work that encompasses one of the following areas: paintings, pictures, collages, creative videos, dance, music, or original poetry/spoken word.
  • 4. Submissions must not have any profanity or contain inappropriate lyrics, pictures, or other content.
  • 5. Participants will have their work showcased in the HSC Ballrooms for judging.
    • a. Performances (dance, music, creative videos, spoken word) must not exceed 2 minutes.
      • i. Participants must bring their own instruments as Blazer Spirit Council will not provide instruments for performances.
    • b. Paintings, collages, or pictures must not be taller than 4ft or wider than 6ft.
  • 6. All participants will be required to provide a brief explanation of their submission and how it incorporates one or more of the tenets. Explanations should not exceed 2 minutes and will be presented at the showcase during judging.
  • 7. Participants must submit their work for approval by 11:59pm on January 29, 2024.
    • a. A picture of any paintings, collages, or other artwork must be submitted for the approval. Bring the actual submission to the event.
    • b. A video of your performance must be submitted for approval. You will perform it live at the event.
    • c. All participants will receive a link to upload their submissions once their Engage sign up has been approved.
    • d. All Participants are still expected to attend the showcase on February 7 for judging.
    • e. The top three submissions will be highlighted on social media and announced at the end of the showcase.
  • 8. Competition winners will be announced at the end of the showcase on February 7th.

  • Incorporation of the Blazer Way or Creed tenet(s)
  • Entertainment/Artistic Expression
  • Overall appearance/Neatness
  • Presentation/Delivery of Explanation of Submission
