Fall Admission – December 1

Student in Chemistry labFall admission deadline is December 1 of the current year to be considered for a matriculation date of Fall semester of the following year, (i.e. deadline December 1, 2017 for Fall of 2018) All applications must be submitted online and other documents, (letters of recommendation, transcripts, test scores, etc.) must be submitted online or received by the UAB Graduate School at the address below.

Minimum test scores for the GRE and TOEFL required for non-probationary admission to the program.

We require a GRE minimum score of 301 (Verbal + Quantitative). The subject GRE test is not required. A minimum score of 95 on the TOEFL for applicants from countries where English is not the official language. An equitable IELTS score would be 5. We accept unofficial copies of your test scores for evaluation purposes only. If you are offered admission to our program, we require official scores for your admission to proceed.

How to Apply to the Program

Your application packet to the University of Alabama, Department of Chemistry Graduate Program will consist of the following documents:

  1. Application and Statement of Purpose – Upload your application into TargetX or by going to our website and clicking on Apply at the bottom of the page.
  2. Official test scores for the GRE and the TOEFL (if you earned your undergraduate degree from a country where English is not the official language) – Please have the testing agency send your official scores directly to the Graduate School at:

  3. Official transcripts from all higher education institutions attended by the applicant – Please have the college or university send your transcripts directly to the graduate school at the address above.
  4. Three letters of recommendation with at least one from a university chemistry professor accompanied by the evaluation form found in TargetX – You may have your recommenders upload their letters into your application OR they may send them directly to the department at the address below:

The terminal degree in our program is the PhD. If you wish to matriculate with the financial support of the department, please choose the PhD as your desired goal.
